CD I: Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 20, KV 466 - Ravel: Concerto for the left hand (Boston Symphony Orchestra, Charles Munch conducting, piano Monique Haas - 11.XI.1960)
CD II: Bach: Piano Concerto in D minor(Piano Monique Haas - 8.XII.1960) - Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major (piano Robert Casadesus - 11.XI.1960 - Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Paul Paray conducting)

There was a time in which three French conductors headed great American orchestras: Pierre Monteux in San Francisco (1936-1952), Charles Munch in Boston (1949-1962), and Paul Paray in Detroit (1951-1962).
We were lucky to be able to reunite in the present album four previously unissued recordings made in Boston with Munch and in Detroit with Paray. Also the pianists are French: Monique Haas and Robert Casadesus. And as a special bonus, the Mozart KV 466 and the Bach concerto are works that appear here for the first time in Monique Haas’ discography.

Decca recordings made in February 1946

In June 1987, twenty years ago, Monique Haas, pupil of the famous pedadogue Lazare-Lévy, died. On this occasion we are releasing two previously unissued Mozart recordings made with the conductors Hans Rosbaud and Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt. As a complement, we have issued two rare recordings (Bach and Rameau) that she made in London in 1946 for Decca. The American pianist Charles Timbrell, one of Monique Haas' pupils kindly agreed to write the liner notes in which he portrays her as a woman «looking like she had just stepped out from an advertisement for Dior…»
The booklet includes also Monique Haas' discography.

- Monique Haas plays Bartok's Concerto No.3 (Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Eugen Jochum, 1951)

Alongside Alfred Cortot and Marguerite Long, Lazare-Lévy was a renowned pedagogue of the first half of the twentieth century. But since he didn't make a recording career, his name is somewhat forgotten by the musical world today. For the 40th anniversary of his death and with the support of his family, we have decided to release the present tribute including a number of previously unissued radio recordings. On the same occasion we decided to include in this set three of his most famous pupils (Monique Haas, Clara Haskil et Solomon) illustrating thus the so-called "Ecole Lazare-Lévy".
